Metta Bhavana
Loving-Kindness Meditation, or Metta Bhavana, is an ancient Buddhist meditation practice that involves cultivating loving-kindness. The word metta means kindness or benevolence, and bhavana means to develop or train. Together, it involves consciously training the heart to feel warmth and kindness – towards oneself, towards others, and towards all living things.
The method comes from early Buddhist traditions in India, where it is seen as a way to create inner peace and reduce hatred, fear and anger. During meditation, people often repeat simple phrases, such as: May I be safe. May I be happy. May I live in peace. Then, they direct the same wishes to other people and ultimately to all beings.
The aim is to allow the feeling of kindness to grow and become more natural in everyday life. When you practice metta, you often become more patient, gentle and forgiving – both towards yourself and towards others. Research also shows that this meditation can reduce stress and increase feelings of joy and connectedness.
Loving-Kindness is therefore both a spiritual and human practice. It helps us live with a more open heart and face the world with more warmth and consideration.May I be safe. May I be healthy. May I live in peace.
May you be happy. May you be secure. May you live in joy.
May all beings be happy, safe and at peace.
You can use it as a daily meditation. Read it slowly, one line at a time, resting a few breaths between each sentence. The feeling doesn't have to be strong – the words are enough. Over time, the warmth and stillness will grow naturally.
As for the text on the inside of the cover, it is a small bonus. The text does not match the contents of the cover as we have chosen to reuse this calendar from a previous year.
