Citrine is a yellow variant of the mineral quartz and belongs to the same crystal family as amethyst, rock crystal and smoky quartz. The color is caused by small amounts of iron in the crystal structure and can vary from light yellow to honey yellow or golden brown. Natural citrine is considerably rarer than many other quartzes.

Citrine occurs naturally in several parts of the world. Among the most important locations are Brazil, which is the largest producer, as well as Madagascar, Zambia, Spain, Russia and the USA. Many citrines sold on the market originate in Brazil.

It is important to distinguish between natural citrine and heat-treated citrine. The most common citrine sold in stores is actually amethyst or smoky quartz that has been heated. When heated to about 400 to 500 degrees, the color changes from purple or smoky to yellow, orange, or brown. This material is often sold as citrine even though it is not naturally formed citrine.

Natural citrine usually has a soft, even yellow color that can be perceived as somewhat smoky or muted. It lacks strong orange or burnt tones and the color is evenly distributed in the crystal. Heated amethyst sold as citrine, on the other hand, often has a very intense yellow or orange color. In many cases, it has a white or clear base and a darker top, which can give a burnt impression.

In summary, citrine is a yellow quartz, with natural citrine being relatively uncommon. The majority of citrine on the market is heat-treated amethyst or smoky quartz. Heating changes the color but not the mineral itself, making the material technically still quartz but not natural citrine.

Citrine carries the memory of the sun within it, as if heat and light had taken on a solid form. In its golden shimmer there is a movement forward, a gentle but clear encouragement to follow one's own direction.

The warm color of citrine encourages us to take a place in our lives. It is associated with will and personal power and is said to help us see opportunities rather than obstacles. As if it quietly strengthens our belief in our own abilities and allows intentions to take hold in reality.

Citrine is often described as light and clear in its energy. It is said not to attract weight but instead to spread light and movement. Therefore, it is associated with joy, optimism and a natural flow where what is needed comes when the time is right.

As a companion, citrine reminds us that abundance is not always about more but about feeling whole. It whispers about the joy of creating, of daring to will, and of facing life with openness and warmth.

Citrine carries a clear and vibrant light that brings to mind the sun and movement. It is often called the "merchants' stone" but its meaning extends beyond the material. It is said to carry an energy of trust, faith in the future and inner wealth that begins in self-esteem.
